What are we Doing?

We are refurbishing and revitalising the 242-year old Theatre Royal Bristol in order to make it accessible and attractive for audiences and artists in the C21st, and build a base for both quality and diversity.

Key improvements include:

1. Redecorated and refurbished front of house spaces.
2. Brand new comfortable seating in the auditorium.
3. Temperature controlled auditorium.
4. Installation of a new lift and other facilities to enhance disabled access (see below).
5. A state of the art education facility in the basement.
6. Refurbishment of the existing studio space.
7. Complete re-wiring and plumbing.
8. Installation of state of the art technology backstage.
9. Urgent Structural repairs.

What we want to achieve

1. The auditorium and studio theatre will be significantly more comfortable for audiences. They will be equipped with new seating in new layouts and improved air-cooling systems.
2. The refurbishment of the Front of House areas will make the whole building more welcoming and allow more 24/7 use of the theatre.
3. The new lifts and other access features will ensure that the whole building is accessible to those with disabilities.
4. The dedicated education suite will facilitate an even larger programme of participation and education in the building.
5. Backstage and technical improvements will enhance the work on stage and the working conditions for both artists and technicians.
