Think about what you and your friends enjoy doing, expand on these ideas and decide how these activities can be turned into a fundraising event. Invite people with common interests and make the event as much fun as possible for everyone involved.
Once you have an idea, don't forget to tell us. We will be able to provide you with advice, promotional material and a letter of authority that states you are raising money on behalf of Bristol Old Vic.
Give us a call on 0117 949 3993 and we will be happy to help. Our email address is appeal@bristol-old-vic.co.uk
This is especially important if it involves selling tickets or securing sponsorship. Have a plan of action: who will do what, and when. Does the date clash with any other local event, or with anything that may make people reluctant to participate on the day?
e.g. a major (televised!) sporting event?
Once you have the date confirmed, tell everyone about it. Send out an email and advertise it on notice boards. The earlier you confirm a date the better.
Equipment Do you need any equipment to successfully run your activities? Sellotape, footballs etc?Plan ahead and make sure it's safe for everyone who takes part.
Information People will want to know about the charity you are fundraising for, so take a few minutes to read about Bristol Old Vic and why we need this money so badly.
Inform To have a successful event, you need to keep telling people about your plans. Get them to sponsor you, send reminder emails, put up posters and advertise in newsletters.
Permission Think ahead and plan your activity, especially if you need permission from your local council.
Venue Do you need a specific venue? How many people will be attending? Could you use the school hall or convince your local church or council to use their hall for free?
Asking friends, family or colleagues to help is a great way to share the work and widen the impact of your event. You may want to set up a mini fundraising committee: People will feel more involved if you allocate them a particular role of responsibility according to their skills and knowledge. The more people you have helping you, the more fun it will be. Jot down all the jobs that need doing and make a note of who is responsible for each item.
Decide on a fundraising target. If you know what your expenses will be beforehand, then you can budget for these and still meet your target to help raise as much money as possible.
